Calendar Project 2026
As a designer, one naturally has a passion for collecting. There have been many well-designed products throughout history, but design icons would fill, at most, a list of 100 items. I’ve always been drawn to products that either became game changers through disruptive technology or became the archetype of such products through the iconic nature of their design.
For a calendar project, I decided to photograph the “most beautiful” design objects from my small design collection and then place them in context by adding a background image. To me, products on a neutral background often tell only half the story, since every design can only be judged in context.
I searched my image database for background images, not with the aim of explaining the context of the particular objects. The goal was to tell a story, to trigger an association that would draw attention to the object in a different (non-functional) way. Finally, the series was designed exclusively for Instagram, with the option to purchase one of the calendar pages as an 80x60cm fine art print upon request. One page was published each month.
